Arriva da molto, molto lontano per contribuire allo studio dei Tursiopi del Ponente Ligure. Ecco Alex, grande appassionato di fauna marina…e non solo!
Ciao! Mi chiamo Alex e sarò stagista del progetto Delfini del Ponente per ben 2 mesi, Agosto e Settembre. Sono originario degli Stati Uniti e negli ultimi cinque anni ho vissuto in Indonesia e Australia prendendo parte in diversi progetti di conservazione degli oceani e delle foreste pluviali.
Essendo apneista, sub e ‘protected species observer’, trascorro grande parte del mio tempo osservando e fotografando delfini, balene e altra fauna marina. Spero che alcune delle mie competenze possano essere utili al Progetto di Costa Balenae. Al tempo stesso confido di imparare nuove tecniche e strategie che mi saranno utili in una futura carriera nel campo della conservazione della biodiversità.
Da sempre sono appassionato di cetacei e l’opportunità di partecipare alla ricerca e studio dei loro comportamenti è davvero un sogno che si realizza! Uno degli aspetti che mi interessa maggiormente, è comprendere l’impatto umano su questi organismi e il loro habitat. E allo stesso tempo come le comunità locali possono contribuire positivamente e trarre beneficio da progetti volti alla conservazione della biodiversità.

He arrives from very far away to contribute to bottlenose dolphins conservation in western Liguria. Here is Alex, very passionate about wildlife and oceans!
Hi! My name is Alex and I am interning for the Delfini del Ponente Project for August and September. Originally from the United States, I spent the last five years living in Indonesia and Australia learning about and taking part in the conservation of oceans and rainforests.
As a certified freediver, scuba diver and protected species observer much of my time is spent observing and photographing dolphins, whales, and other marine life. I hope to use some of the skills I have to benefit Costa Balenae while also learning new strategies and techniques in an effort to pursue a career in conservation and activism.
I have always been passionate about Cetaceans and the opportunity to research and document their behavior is a dream come true. I am particularly interested in the human impact on habitat and behavior along with how local communities can positively aid and benefit from conservation initiatives.
I hope that by the end of this internship I will have a deeper understanding of Cetacean biology, have developed stronger wildlife survey skills, and be able to apply my knowledge to future research and conservation projects.
