Hello everyone!
My name is Alessia, I’m from Canada and I want to tell you about my first sighting at sea with a special dolphin!
I stayed in Imperia for a month, and it was so special. My experiences in Imperia have been great. The weeks have been full of amazing food and exciting adventures. My favourite experience has been the first survey we completed.
The day started with a beautiful sunrise and calm waters. I was super excited to be out on the water and hopefully see some dolphins. As the day continued, the sun came out and it was very hot. Being from Canada, I was not used to such an intense sun. I remember thinking, “how am I going to stay in this sun until the end of the survey?” Thankfully, a nice swim in the sea during our break had cooled me off. Hours had passed looking out at the water, and I was beginning to lose hope that we would see any dolphins on our first day.
As we were heading back into the harbour, I spotted the fin of a dolphin. At first I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and had to do a double take just to be sure. Everyone on the zodiac was excited and as we looked out, a group of 12 dolphins appeared. This particular moment will be one that I look back on and remember for years to come as it was such an amazing sight.
Amongst these dolphins was also an individual I was excited to see. He is known as D4. I had spent the days prior going through a previous sighting and he was one of the first dolphins I was able to correctly identify. It was great to be able to recognize him out at sea.
I could’t be more happy with the people I have met so far and the experiences I’ve had.
