Hi there,

It’s Emma here and all my love for the ocean!

I’m here all the way from small town of Georgeville, Southern Quebec, Canada.

My love for the ocean began when I was a kid, when my dad and I would watch Blue Planet together on Sunday afternoons. Since then, I gained an even bigger appreciation for the ocean and its important role in global ecosystems. This happened especially when I spent 9 months living at sea while finishing up my high school diploma.

Having never lived near a sea or an ocean, this gave me the opportunity to see and experience first-hand the power, beauty, and both resilience and fragility of the ocean and its inhabitants. Following this, I knew I needed to pursue a career dedicated to better understanding and preserving the world’s oceans.

In order to achieve such a career, I have been studying biology and environmental sciences at Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. I will be entering my fourth year this fall.

Participating in the Delfini del Ponente internship seemed like an opportunity not only to understand how research can be performed in a marine setting regarding marine fauna, namely cetaceans… But also to witness the direct impacts of human implications on marine fauna and environments.

I am so looking forward to two months of learning, new experiences, and lots of time spent trying to better understand our oceans and seas.

All the best!

 Emma
