Cycling to Sanremo

After a busy week settling into our new routines, we were due to go out on the Zodiac at sunrise on Saturday morning. However, because of the sea condition our survey trip was cancelled and Patrizia, Francesca, Anna and I had a day off instead! We wanted to make the most of our day so we decided to explore the area.
What to do? We had heard of the cycle path from San Lorenzo to Sanremo and it sounded like it would be perfect! So, we got the bus from Imperia to San Lorenzo (where we met a beautiful friendly cat while waiting at the bus stop) and hired our bikes at Nolo Bici. Then our adventure truly began!

The cycle path took us through lush areas of plants and flowers, going through old railway tunnels which cooled us down from the soaring heat and then emerging to stunning sea views on the left. The sun was beating down on us and shimmering on the sea, with the wind blowing in our hair – idyllic!

We stopped for lunch along the way in a restaurant, Impekabile, and sat watching the sea with some delicious food and drink. After reapplying our sunscreen (very important!), we set off again and made it to Sanremo ready for a refreshing dip in the water. The journey was about 20km and with our lunch stop included, it took us about 3 hours.

With masks and snorkels on, we jumped into the crystal clear water and explored the marine life there. There were several species of fish going about their lives around the rocks, and some of us saw a starfish too! It was abundant with life, and so much fun to swim around.

As the sun was beginning to go down, we made our way to the train station (running as we were a bit late!) and hopped on our train back to Imperia. It was a gorgeous day out filled with fun, laughter, and adventure!
