Hello!

My name is Danielle and I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, a city located in the middle of the country, surrounded by prairies, lakes, and rivers. I pretty much spent my childhood exploring the great outdoors and it is through experiences such as backcountry hiking, canoeing, fishing, sailing, and camping that my passion for the environment took shape.

It is precisely this love I have for the outdoors that led me to pursue an education in sciences. I completed my Bachelor in Environmental Sciences (Honours, Co-op) at the University in Manitoba, Canada, in October 2020. In October 2022 I moved to Lecce, Italy, and I am currently pursuing the Coastal and Marine Biology and Ecology Master’s at Università del Salento.

My academic interests lie in both environmental assessment and ecological monitoring. And combined with my love of spending time outdoors, I quickly realized both my inclination as well as fondness of research and fieldwork. I am intrigued by the work that Delfini del Ponente conducts. While my experiences so far relate to freshwater systems, I am eager to expand my knowledge and skill set to include marine environments and make a positive impact while assisting with research. I have also never seen dolphins or other cetaceans, so I cannot wait to see what we encounter at sea!
